Often, grand touring cars are sold by manufacturers with just one transmission choice: automatic. While an auto may suit the relaxed personal luxury driving experience GT cars have to offer, it does take away some of the involvement. The owner of this Mercedes CLK430 wasn't having any of it.
David of decided that instead of simply replacing his aging five-speed auto with another one, he was going to do a good old fashioned manual swap. Using a six-speed from a crashed Chrysler Crossfire (also found in the Mercedes SLK), he managed to fit everything together cleanly.
The result, as finds out in his latest One Take video review, is a GT car with some serious character. The 4.3-liter V8 is well-matched to the manual, and the ability to choose your own gears in the twisties is a huge advantage over the auto.
