Welcome to The Grid, R&T's quick roundup of the auto industry and motorsports news you should know this morning.
Our favorite F1 driver who drinks out of a shoe understands that delaying his contract talks is definitely a risk. Ricciardo, who has spent his entire career with Red Bull, knows that his tactic might not pay off.
In a conversation with Racer, Ricciardo broke down "The longer you leave it, then if you're not performing you're looking less and less desirable race by race," the driver said. Of course, that shouldn't be an issue for Ricciardo, who is one of the top performing drivers in the series. Still, it hasn't been said how long Red Bull will wait for the Aussie to make his decision.
Small Maserati Recall
Maserati to fix an issue that could cause a fire. Apparently, fuel could leak into the engine bay, which is bad.
The fault impacts every sedan that Maserati built from July 24th to December 14th, 2017. All will be fixed free of charge.
Alonso at Daytona
The last few years have shown a different side of Fernando Alonso. The driver who once only raced in F1 and didn't seem to want to race elsewhere has competed in the Indy 500, tested Toyota's LMP1 car ahead of an anticipated drive at Le Mans, and will run his first endurance race at Daytona later this month.
Alonso will test at Daytona for the first time in a few days for the Roar Before the 24 with his United Autosports team, and the driver has said that this adventure is taking him , as you'd expect. We'll be following closely to see just how well Alonso takes to sports cars. Our guess? As well, or better, than he took to IndyCars.
