The V8 is one of the most popular engine configurations of all time, and one that lends itself to making great noises. The lope of a classic American V8 is iconic, but the flat-plane wail of a Ferrari unit is unforgettable too. That's why we've nominated the Ferrari F355's 3.5-liter as the best-sounding road-car V8 of all time, but we want to know what you think.
First though, let's talk about the Ferrari. The F355 engine, code-named F129B, was Ferrari's first five-valve motor, and one of the ultimate iterations of the V8 that made its debut in the classic 308. It makes 375 hp, which was a big number for 1994, and revs to 8500, which was unheard of in 1994.
The sound it makes, as evidenced by this old Best Motoring video is truly wonderful. Ferrari V8s made before and after the F355 sound good, but none are quite so musical.
But enough about our opinions. At this point, we now turn the question over to you, so hop in the comments and share your favorite road-car V8 noise.
