Jenson Button, 2009 Formula 1 champion and current World Endurance Championship driver, revealed today that he is selling his MSO-customized 2015 McLaren P1 hypercar. You should buy it.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
In an Instagram post, Button says he put the car up for sale "so that someone else can enjoy her." The reasoning? Well, he doesn't get to spend much time with it.
"It’s a tough decision but living in America I don’t really get the chance to drive this beauty," Button remarked. This P1, if you haven't noticed already, lives in the UK—an entire ocean separates it from Button most of the year. That explains the ultra-low mileage—just 551 miles on the clock.
Apart from being owned by an F1 champion, there are some other things worth noting about this P1. It's painted in McLaren Special Operations (MSO) Grauschwartz Grey, and sports a "Track Mode 2" option, which puts the drivetrain into Track mode without dropping the suspension to its track-only ride height. Other notable options include the lightweight forged wheels, yellow-painted brake calipers, yellow contrast stitching, and a Meridian sound system.
Judging by the pictures, the car looks basically new because, well, it basically is. We'd bet the engine hasn't even been totally broken-in yet. It's currently . The Price? Well, like any P1 these, days, it's not cheap. The car is listed for a staggering £1.6 million (around $2.1 million), which is nearly a million dollars more than the P1's original MSRP.
