The VW Nardo Concept Sounds Better Than Any Bugatti

This outrageously cool mid-engine supercar never made it to production. But it should have.

Remember the Volkswagen Nardo? Introduced at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show, it was an evolution of the company's 1997 W12 supercar concept, which featured a 12-cylinder engine making over 400 horsepower.

Though a prototype version smashed a world speed record in 2002, VW decided to build the Bugatti Veyron instead, which went on to secure its title as the fastest road car on earth. Though it never made production, the Nardo still sounds fantastic—better than any Bugatti I've heard. Listen for yourself if you don't believe me.
