Often times when you come across an old car for sale and it's in great condition, there's a wonderful story behind it. This rare 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SLC AMG is a fantastic example. It's , offered up by the original owner, a woman who bought the car new in Germany, brought it with her when she moved to the US in 1985, and drove it in California for another two decades.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
Mrs. Bozem purchased this C107-generation 450SLC brand-new from a dealership in Germany on June 1, 1977. It's a fixed-roof coupe, upgraded with a bunch of AMG touches. Touting a 4.5-liter V-8, it's painted a lovely shade of red, and sports chrome fender flares, a tan interior, and a handful of awesome period-correct decals on the rear bumper.
The car was serviced at the German dealership up until 1985, when Mrs. Bozem moved to Santa Barbara, California. She continued to drive the car up until 2014, and apparently, kept it in excellent condition. It was recently given a full service by the selling dealer.
Judging by the pictures, the car looks to be in almost perfect shape, especially considering the 114,000 kilometers (roughly 71,000 miles) on the odometer. The paint shines brightly, and the chrome trim is undamaged. Inside, the seats seem like they've never been sat in. The only hint of wear is some fading on the front valance section under the bumper.
The car with a Buy It Now price of $15,750 or best offer. Considering this car's condition and history, we'd say that's worth it.
