Looking for a track car this summer? Don't want to spend a lot of money? Well, this might be the perfect car for you. It's a 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata R-Package that's been turbocharged and equipped with a whole bunch of performance mods. The best part? It's for an extremely reasonable $3500. You should buy it.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
R-Package Miatas came from the factory with black trim along the body, stiffer suspension, a Torsen limited-slip differential, and a power-steering delete, making them a bit more performance-oriented than the standard car. The seller says this one was built for NASA and SCCA club events, upgraded with a turbo kit from the gurus over at Flyin' Miata, using a Garrett turbocharger from a Nissan Silvia engine. Supporting the forced induction are a larger fuel pump, bigger injectors, a massive intercooler, and a Megasquirt ECU.
In addition to the engine improvements, the car's also been equipped with a roll bar, aluminum racing seats, five-point harnesses, Koni shocks, Ground Control springs, and a custom exhaust. The air conditioning and heat still work, and the soft top seals as it should. The only flaws the seller notes are a slow leak in one of the tires and a small dent on the front fender. It has everything you need in an affordable track car, and nothing you don't.
The car is with an asking price of just $3500. That's really reasonable for a turbocharged Miata.
