This stop-motion clip of a Mazda Miata engine coming apart might just be the prettiest engine teardown video ever. And that's not just because we're a tad obsessed with Mazda's excellent sports car, but because this video pays a meticulous attention to detail that other engine teardowns see to avoid. It's mesmerizing.
The video, put together by , features a 1.6-liter Mazda B6ZE engine found in early iterations of the first-generation MX-5 Miata. Unlike most teardown videos, which include people doing the teardown, this clip is completely free of human hands, giving you an unobscured view of all the Miata engine goodness. If you've ever wondered what ever part of an NA Miata's engine looks like, you don't have to wonder anymore.
spoke to Alex Muir, the video's creator, who said it took no less than 15 days and 2500 photos to complete. Not a walk in the park, but worth it for this incredibly satisfying result. Watch for yourself.
