The is technically a Jaguar XJ12. But look around, and you'll notice there are no Jaguar badges present here. Instead, you'll find the logo for Daimler, a defunct UK automaker that, no, has nothing to do with Mercedes-Benz. So, what's going on here?

The Daimler Company was formed in 1896 and cycled through various owners before landing under the control of Jaguar in 1960. Around that time, Jaguar began selling Daimler versions of its own Mark II sedan, starting a tradition that carried on well into the 1990s. Daimlers were positioned as slightly more upmarket Jaguars with fancier interiors and more standard equipment.
In 1972, the Double-Six first appeared around the same time as the V12-powered Jaguar XJ12. The name "Double-Six" came from Daimler's original V12 of the 1920s, though the engine in this car is 100-percent Jaguar. It's the same 5.3-liter V12 that Jaguar used in the Series III E-Type and its successor, the XJS coupe. When new, this engine made around 300 hp and came paired with a GM three-speed automatic transmission.
Jaguar never brought the Daimler Double-Six to the US, instead offering American buyers the XJ12 Vanden Plas. , a 1988 model, was originally sold in Dubai, and subsequently imported to Japan. It was brought to the US sometime within the last few years, and given a full restoration last year.
In pictures, it looks to be in excellent shape, and at the time of writing, bidding on Bring a Trailer is up to a little under $9000, with five days left before the auction closes. It's definitely one of the most obscure cars we've seen for sale in a while, and that's got to count for a lot. Confuse all your friends! Impress the tens of Jaguar dorks who know what it is!
