Though tires aren't the flashiest items on your vehicle, you should definitely know how to identify their features, and have a general idea of what's going on with them. Tire sidewalls aren't very exciting to read, and often times, they can be confusing. There's lots of numbers and letters stamped to the rubber that aren't labeled, as well as a few symbols and logos you might need to know about.
Jason Fenske of put together a comprehensive video detailing exactly how to read the things printed on the sidewall of your tires. He goes through things like measurements, load ratings, identifier letters, temperature readings, pressure limits, and even symbols for things like mud and snow tires.
Seeing all of these numbers and slashes can be a bit daunting, but Fenske lays it out well using a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tire taken off his Tesla Model 3 Performance. Because tire noise is pretty much all you hear in an electric car like the Model 3, this particular version of Sport 4S has foam pasted on the inside to dull road noise—a clever yet simple solution.
