Knowing how to lift a car onto jack stands is something everyone should know. It's a simple method to get your car off the ground, and gives you the ability to access all sorts of basic maintenance items. But getting it wrong could have disastrous consequences, so Jason Fenske of is here to show us how to properly get a car in the air.
The concept of placing a car on jack stands may seem simple, but it actually involves quite a bit of steps. Before even touching your car jack, you need to make sure car is on level ground, in gear, with its handbrake pulled. It should also be chocked at the wheels to prevent the car from rolling while it's being lifted.
Then you need to locate your car's jack points. Putting all the weight of your car on a place that isn't properly secure can do some serious damage, so make sure you know where the points are located. Most cars have jack points next to the wheels in between the wheelbase, and the rear of the car can often be lifted from the differential.
But those are just the basics. Let Jason show you all of the other steps necessary to ensure a safe, effective way to jack up your ride.
