The seemingly-boundless creativity of Lego builders never ceases to amaze us. All the time, we see cool cars rendered in these plastic bricks online, but this is something a little different. A builder who goes by built a six-speed transmission with Lego parts, and amazingly, it works just like the real thing.
Dgustafsson13 demonstrates their handiwork by going through all six gears with a spinning the input shaft. The builder says the transmission is synchronized too, which is good, since you don't want to grind your Lego gears.
This isn't an official Lego kit, but that doesn't matter, since Dgustafsson13 has posted a and for this mini six-speed online. Frankly, this doesn't look too hard to build, so I know what I'm doing when I get home tonight. I can't think of a better way to illustrate how gearboxes work.
