Icon 4x4, the Los Angeles-based low-volume custom car shop responsible for cars like the Icon FJ and Bronco, is back with another wildly cool project. This time it isn't a stealthy Chevy Caprice or electric VW Thing—it's a classic Rolls-Royce.
Jonathan Ward, R&T contributor and the genius behind Icon 4x4, was invited out to to show off his latest client-ordered custom creation. This 1958 Silver Cloud is a part of the "Derelict" series, using a neglected, patina-rich chassis and refreshing it with modern performance tech.
The original straight-six has been removed in favor of a GM LS7 V8 crate engine, and the car now makes 550 horsepower through an automatic transmission. It's also been equipped with Brembo brakes—six-piston front and four-piston rear—an Art Morrison independent front suspension, a four-link rear suspension, and coilovers all around. Thankfully, all that lovely-looking Patina is still present and accounted for.
Jay Leno got a chance to drive the V8-swapped Rolls, and big surprise, he loves it. Watch for yourself to see Ward explain how his creation came together.
Which would you rather, old or new?
