If you own an NA or NB Mazda MX-5 Miata and want something to make your car stand out, this might be the accessory for you. It's a transparent "bubble" hardtop, formed in the same shape as the OEM top, except its totally see-through.
The piece, developed by enthusiast Jonathan Mark, is made of durable acrylic and uses the same mounting points as the normal hardtop, but weighs in at just 20 pounds–less than half the weight of the factory item. In order to cut down on heat and keep the cabin cool, there's an ultra violet filter film. It's the best of both worlds, really: The visibility of having no roof, but the comfort and isolation of having an installed top.
There are some drawbacks to the bubble piece, though. —which looks like it was made in 2005—says the piece isn't designed for speeds over 80 mph, and it scratches easily. Still, it's cooler than the stock top.
The site claims the piece will be available starting in Spring 2018, but has yet to list a price. Sure, we think having no top at all would still be more fun, but having this for colder months (or if you just don't want to deal with the wind) would be pretty sweet.
