When you think De Tomaso, the mid-engine 1970s Pantera probably comes to mind. But De Tomaso built a handful of other cars too, and this is one of them. Meet the Guará.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
This Guará is one of seven (or ten, depending on who you ask) built in no-roof Barchetta form. It's a two-seat mid-engine sports car powered by a 4.0-liter BMW V8 (the same engine found in the base 8-Series), making 279 horsepower, sent to the wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. It also has a set of sweet pop-up headlights.
The Guará was Alejandro De Tomaso's last production car his company put into the market before it went under, selling around 50 examples in total. Later examples switched from BMW to Ford-supplied engines marking around 40 more horsepower. Weight for the Barchetta model sits around 2300 pounds.
It's not often one of these later, modern-ish De Tomasos pops up for sale, so it's always news-worthy when they do. The selling dealer, Speed 8 Classics in Belgium, doesn't list a price on its site, but does mention the extremely low 416-kilometer (258-mile) odometer reading. .
