Looking for something retro to cruise around on your days off and stand out from the crowd? This green Citroen SM is in perfect condition, and comes with a wonderfully cool matching green interior. It's for sale right now. You should buy it.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
The SM is arguably the coolest Citroen ever made. It's a two-door front-wheel drive grand tourer with looks that seem futuristic, even today. It's powered by a Maserati-sourced V6 engine, and features Citroen's signature hydro-pneumatic self-leveling suspension system and headlights that swivel with the steering wheel—pretty innovative stuff for the '70s. That last feature didn't come on US-market cars (the tech was illegal for road cars at the time)—but fortunately, this car is a European model, currently located in Switzerland, which means the lights are included. It's also sporting the five-speed manual transmission, complete with a unique metal shift boot. Oh, and if you haven't noticed already, there are a ton of Maserati badges.
According to the sellers at Lutziger Classic Cars, this SM was just extracted from a large collection, and recently received over $14,000 in maintenance to make it drive absolutely perfect. It has new tires, a new exhaust system, and new suspension components, among other things. It'll also come with original service booklet, original owner's manual, and all other relevant documentation. The dealer is asking 79,900 Swiss Francs (around $83,000) for . Considering its only done 74,000 kilometers (around 46,000 miles) since new, we'd say that's a fair price—especially if you're into that green-on-green color scheme. I know I am.
