Hardcore car people will know that AMG wasn't always a sub-division of the Mercedes-Benz brand. It was once its own company, taking Mercedes cars and modifying them with cool trim and upgraded powertrains. Nowadays, pre-merger AMG cars are highly sought-after by the collector community. This 1985 500 SEC, , is one of those cars. You should buy it.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
What makes this pre-merger AMG so special? Well, just look at it. It's painted in white, paired with color-matched white AMG wheels, and an all white fascia. Can you get any more 1980s than this? It's hard to say otherwise.
Peek in the cabin, and things get even cooler. It's finished in a rare red cloth with striped inserts, with red leather trim and burl wood accents. Despite the car's age, it's only covered 10,726 miles since new, meaning everything's still in perfect condition. Even the heated seats and in-car phone still work. We're obsessed.
As for powertrain, under the hood sits an unmodified 230-horsepower 5.0-liter Mercedes V8 sending power to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission. RMC Miami, the selling dealer, apparently acquired the car from its original owner, and says it still drives like new. The under-carriage, engine bay, and spare tire well are supremely clean. RMC even put a video together to show off just how cool it is:
The car is with a Buy It Now price of $58,500 or best offer. While that does sound like a lot of money for a 33-year old Mercedes two-door, you have to admit, this thing is super cool. We bet there will be at least one person out there willing to shell out the cash.
