We never get tired of engine swaps. There always seem to be new ones out there waiting for us to discover. It's a 1992 Volvo 960 sedan that's had its factory inline-six swapped out for a Chevy LS V-8. Equipped with stock wheels, OEM suspension, it's a total sleeper. It's for sale on Craigslist right now. You should buy it.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
The Volvo 960 came from the factory with a DOHC inline-six making 201 horsepower. The owner of this car didn't find that sufficient, so they dropped in a 5.3 LS V-8 from a Chevy truck. The listing doesn't mention what sorts of numbers the engine is pushing, but we estimate it's well over 300 horsepower. Torque gets to the rear wheels via a four-speed GM-sourced 4L60-E automatic transmission.
The coolest part about this car (besides the V-8, obviously), is that it looks just like any other Volvo. It has OEM wheels, sits at the stock ride height, and sports the factory interior, right down to the gear selector. Aside from the aftermarket gauges in the dash, there's no way you'd be able to tell what's going on under the hood (unless you hear it running). That's what makes sleepers so great.
The car with an asking price of just $5000. The seller says the car has some small issues, including an exhaust rattle, an A/C compressor leak, and a vibration at 30 mph. But for the price, you're still getting a whole lot of car.
