We love a good V8-swapped Miata, and the folks over at Flyin' Miata of Colorado sure know how to build them right. The Miata-focused shop currently has two second-hand examples for sale on its website, and we think you should buy both of them.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
The first car, , is a first-gen NA Miata that goes by the name of Bert. The original owner brought the car in for a V8 conversion at 32,000 miles, where it received an LS376 V8 making 445 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque, bolted to a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission, a Cadillac CTS limited-slip differential, and a host of other cooling and driveline upgrades to handle all that extra power. The car now has 46,000 miles on it, and comes with a color-matching hardtop included.
The second car, nicknamed Moonshine, is an NB-generation Miata . This one has many of the same modifications as the NA car, but uses an EROD LS3 engine making 430 horsepower, and a Getrag 3.73-ratio differential. It's got 110,000 miles on the chassis, 23,000 of which were added after it was converted to V8-spec.
Either of these V8-powered beast would be a fantastic addition to any garage. But if you're having a hard time picking a favorite (as we are), ? If you don't have the space, we're sure we can make some room at the R&T offices—in exchange for some seat time, of course.
