Winter is here, and for most of us, that means the toys go into hibernation. Vehicular pleasure often demands clear, dry pavement, a scarcity from November to March.
But it doesn't have to be that way. For those of us in the colder climates, winter brings a whole new world of motorized joy. Like a shifter kart on studded tires, popping wheelies and careening into lurid slides on a frozen lake.
We don't know where this video came from. It came to our attention via We don't know who built this kart, or who the driver is, or what's powering this gonzo contraption.
But what more do you really need to know? It's a shifter kart, on studded tires, on a frozen lake. It's powerful enough to pop wheelies—perhaps unintentionally, as the wheelstands in the beginning of this video seem to surprise the mitten-wearing driver as much as they startled us.
And once those tiny studded tires hook up, look out. This thing is rocket quick, and powerful enough to feint into a long, arcing powerslide with a nudge of the throttle.
Whoever built this, and whoever is driving it in this video, we salute you. When life gives you a frozen lake, build an ice-racing shifter kart and make lemonade, dammit.
