The Gran Turismo series has always offered an incredibly wide variety of cars to its players, but in its 20-year history, there's always been a big omission: Porsche. Polyphony, the studio behind the series, worked around this using cars from RUF–an independent automaker which sells Porsche-based cars–but those days are over. Yes, Porsche is coming to Gran Turismo Sport.
Gran Turismo announced that Porsche cars would be available in Sport Tuesday, releasing gameplay screenshots featuring the 911 GT3 RS. So far, the only Porsche confirmed for Gran Turismo Sport is the GT3 RS, but it wouldn't be surprising if others were added in future expansion packs. We've reached out to a Gran Turismo spokesperson to see if other Porsches are on their way.
Thanks to –the studio behind the Need For Speed and Real Racing series–Porsche video game appearances have been scarce. Some early Forzagames featured Porsches before a long absence that ended withForza Horizon 2 in 2015. Forza Motorsport Six first offered a Porsche expansion package last year.
A closed beta program for Gran Turismo Sport began for select players last month, which seems to indicate the game's release is imminent. Originally, Sport was set to be released before the end of 2016, but as is often the case with Gran Turismo games, its release was pushed back. All we know is that it's supposed to be released some time this year.
With the inclusion of Porsche, we're even more excited for Sport's release. It's about time Porsche made its way into Gran Turismo.
