doesn't seem like one of those feel good, fuzzy-warm nostalgic tales of a can-do attitude and a spunky, individualistic movie star. It sounds heartbreaking. A troubled situation on set. Broken promises. Personal tragedy. And yet, we know how it ends: Le Mans reigns supreme among a small subset of movies about racing in the golden era of cool, along with Grand Prix. McQueen has basically become a buzzword, shorthand for a particular style and attitude. The film, the man, are legend.
The making of the movie? That's what the documentary is about. It debuted at Cannes earlier this year, and it's been slowly migrating from one film festival to another. At some point, the rest of us will get to see it—hence the trailer—but until then, this trailer is the best look you can get at the major plot-lines and personalities that will appear in the full film. It's a combination of never-before-seen footage from on-set, present day interviews, and a lot of the man's son, Chad. More importantly, it tells the tale of how Le Mans soured McQueen on racing, a subject that anyone interested in the man or the movie will want to know more about.
