From Pontiac to Passat, these are the best automotive Super Bowl ads to ever air during the big game.

1 of 24
Audi R8 - "Commander" (2016)

Equating launch control on an Audi supercar to a rocket launch isn't the most original idea out there, but the flawless execution in this clip certainly makes up for it.

2 of 24
Ford GT - "The One" (2004)

This is, in our opinion, the single best Super Bowl car commercial of all time. No visual effects. No gimmicks. Just the Ford GT on a racetrack, kicking ass.

3 of 24
Jeep Wrangler - "Anti-Manifesto" (2018)

Like the Ford GT ad, this clip showing off the new Wrangler is simple. While other manufacturers use big-buck actors and wild special effects, Jeep decided to display what it does best: Going where no other car can hope to travel.

4 of 24
Volkswagen Passat - "The Force" (2011)

This one will go down in history. Perfect concept, brilliantly executed, and it's still eminently re-watchable.

5 of 24
Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo - "Dream" (1991)

Directed by Ridley Scott, this epic TV spot introduced the fantastic new twin-turbo Z to a mass audience.

6 of 24
Chrysler 200 - "Imported From Detroit" (2011)

Chrysler hires Eminem and puts forth a rallying cry for itself, the city of Detroit, and the auto industry in general. It was technically for the 200, but it's bigger than that. This ad will still be talked about for years to come.

7 of 24
Pontiac GTO - "The Humbler" (1970)

This fantastic spot for the GTO with the "Humbler" vacuum-operated exhaust (VOE) aired only once. The feature was deemed so antisocial by GM brass that they killed the option and yanked the commercial immediately thereafter.

8 of 24
Dodge Trucks - "Any Length" (1973)

Given the breadth of options available on today's trucks, a modern Ram equivalent to this 1973 Dodge Super Bowl spot would be approximately 17 hours long.

9 of 24
Mercedes-AMG GT - "Easy Driver" (2017)

Actor Peter Fonda trades his Easy Ride all-American chopper for an AMG GT convertible, and on-lookers couldn't be more impressed.

10 of 24
Budweiser - "Race Team" (1980)

Paul Newman Can-Am Race Team. 'Nuff said.

11 of 24
Cadillac V-Series - "Bullet" (2005)

In 2005, millions of viewers learned that Cadillac had three V-Series cars capable of hitting 60 mph in under five seconds. Today we have a V-Series Caddy with 640 hp. It all traces back to these three originals: CTS-V, STS-V, and XLR-V. Good times.

12 of 24
Audi A6 - "The Chase" (2009)

Jason Statham being Jason Statham through the decades, culminating in a stint driving the then-facelifted Audi A6.

13 of 24
Acura NSX - "Transactions" (2012)

Wherein Jay thwarts Jerry, and we're reminded just how long we waited for the NSX to finally make its debut.

14 of 24
Acura NSX - "It's Good to Be Back" (2016)

Acura followed up Seinfeld's short with a presentation of the production version of the NSX dubbed to Van Halen's "Runnin' With the Devil." Seems appropriate.

15 of 24
Audi R8 - "Godfather" (2009)

Audi sends up The Godfather in this excellent R8-led dig at "Old Luxury." That said, this commercial would have been better still if it had a Ferrari nose standing in for the horse's head...

16 of 24
Ram Trucks - "Farmer" (2013)

The most visually and emotionally powerful of Chrysler's modern Super Bowl spots. Yes, even more than "Imported From Detroit." Still images and Paul Harvey's voice. It's brilliant.

17 of 24
Mercedes-Benz - "Welcome" (2011)

An army of old Benzos welcomes the new guys. We'll forgive the Diddy cameo. It's overshadowed by all the other great cars in here.

18 of 24
Chevrolet SSR - "Soap" (2004)

A great idea, brilliantly executed. If only it had been for a car other than the Chevy SSR...

19 of 24
Lexus LC - "Man and Machine" (2017)

If any car is capable of drawing out one's emotions, it's the Lexus LC. Those stunning lines made it a slam dunk in this 2017 ad.

20 of 24
Maserati Ghibli - "Strike" (2014)

It's a slow build...to an awesome payoff. Another winner from the Chrysler folks, as they re-introduce America to Maserati and the evil-sounding Ghibli.

21 of 24
Ford Mustang GT Convertible - "Green Light" (2005)

How do you promote your new convertible in the dead of winter? You do what Ford did here with the S197 Mustang.

22 of 24
Audi S6 - "Prom" (2013)

No prom date? No problem. Take dad's S6, park like Kojak, kiss the prom queen, and win the evening.

23 of 24
Nissan Maxima - "Pigeons" (1997)

A squeaky-clean Nissan Maxima, a squadron of hell-bent pigeons, and Kenny Loggins. It was a recipe for great success, as TV commercials go. And it was the last time Nissan ran a Super Bowl spot before 2015.

24 of 24
Pepsi, featuring Cindy Crawford (1991)

No it's not a car commercial per se, but come on: Cindy Crawford at the zenith of her powers, with a Lamborghini Diablo. Oh...and, uh, Pepsi. Classic.
