A giddy Jim Glickenhaus called Road & Track today with the news: Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus will be at next month's annual C as a constructor. You know alongside other constructors like Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and all the rest.
Jim reported that his wife Meg was quick to joke, "Gee, maybe you'll win the SCG category."
Because of the Concorso's timing, Jim will drive SCG 003 to Italy directly from the Nürburgring at the conclusion of the 24-hour race in Germany.
When I asked if there would be any issues with that part of it all, Jim said, "We have a prova plate for the car, so it's 100% legal in Italy." Then, laughing, he added, "And we'll make sure everything's sorted out with the license for the rest of the drive from Germany."
Part of Jim's mission with SCG 003 is a return to the days when an owner could spend a weekend racing and drive that same car home from the circuit.
The duo of SCG 003 race cars will compete in this weekend's six-hour race at the Nürburgring, operating under the new safety restrictions that have been put into place. Jim plans to check in from the race with updates on the cars, so stay tuned.
