Like many things from the Seventies, like denim jackets, creepy mustaches, and Peter Frampton's original Les Paul, "vanning" is back in force among young people in California. The goal, obviously, is the same goal they have at the Pebble Beach Concours: keep things original and dress the part to match. But where the van guys diverge from Ralph Lauren and the other megabuck collectors is in their determination to live the vannin' lifestyle to the fullest.
Although no full-sized van from the Big Three has ever left the factory with a proper four-wheel-drive setup, that doesn't mean that people didn't take matters into their own hands. Here's a 1976 Chevy G30 one-ton van, converted by Pathfinder with Chevrolet pickup 4x4 components and powered by a 400-cubic-inch small-block. The footage that our friends at created could be straight out of the Seventies. . . except for the license plates, of course. Will Ford see the light and build a lifted 4WD Transit as a result of this video? Absolutely not, bro.
