When Ken Block first showed off his twin-turbocharged "V2" Hoonicorn Mustang last week, he said he installed forced induction for an upcoming project that took place at high altitude. Now, Block and sponsor Toyo Tires revealed this high-altitude project, a crazy drift run up Pikes Peak.
Toyo Tires Wednesday promising the Summer 2017 release of Climbkhana, dubbed the "next generation of the Gymkhana series." Unsurprisingly given the cast of characters involved, it looks completely and utterly ridiculous.
It takes place on the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb circuit, a treacherous, 14,000-foot run up a mountain of the same name in Colorado.
Since turbocharged engines perform better at high altitude than their naturally aspirated counterparts, we now know why Block so dramatically modified the Hoonicorn. Did he need to boost it from 845 to 1400 hp, though? If tire annihilation is the goal, than yes. Yes he did.
