BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe: The Abuse of the Word "Coupe" Continues

This is what your next fancy-topped 8-series variant will probably look like.

BMW is not alone in its dedication to plastering the word "coupe" across all manner of four-door vehicles. It's a plague on the industry, an abdication of the values we once held dear—chiefly, that coupes have two doors.

That said, the Concept M8 Gran Coupe that just debuted at the Geneva Motor show does look excellent.

BMW says the concept car "offers a look ahead to the most alluring and exotic variant of the new BMW 8 Series." With its long hood, sleek roofline, powerful haunches, and kick-up trunk spoiler, it certainly embodies dynamism.

And we especially love the color-shifting green paint with subtle gold-ish accents.

No technical details were offered at the debut of the concept. BMW would only go so far as to say the design study "previews the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and BMW M8 Gran Coupe, which will be presented in 2019." While we're still a little grumpy at the proliferation of four-door "coupes" in the 21st century, we have to say we're excited about the shape this particular one will take.
