Ferruccio Lamborghini would probably be flattered to see the company that bears his name celebrate his 100th birthday. But this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the March 1966 debut of at the Geneva auto show. The mid-engined Miura, of course, is often considered the first supercar. It made the subsequent Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona look dated, and it fundamentally changed the industry's approach to high-performance cars. It is on these occasions that Lamborghini is set to unveil a new hypercar, the Centenario.
Few details have emerged so far, but we know that exactly 40 units of the Centenario will be built, split evenly between coupes and roadsters. The price point of a whopping €2.2 million (roughly $2.45 million at today's exchange rates) failed to deter prospective buyers: We hear that every single Lamborghini Centenario is spoken for.
The lucky owners can relish in the knowledge of driving a uniquely styled and supremely rare supercar, much in the fashion of , , and previously released by Lamborghini. Its design will be highlighted by the fact that it will be shown in exposed carbon fiber. And given that this car is expected, in part, to pay homage to the Miura, we expect to see nothing less than an ultrapowerful V-12 engine, positioned exactly where it belongs: right behind the occupants.
