The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider Has a Rad Stripe

Oh, and 710 horsepower. And a folding roof. But also a cool stripe.

The Ferrari 488 Pista is, by all accounts, a brilliant car. The quicker version of the excellent 488 takes a lot of what Ferrari has learned with its Challenge cars, as well as Formula 1, to create the ultimate mid-engine V8 Ferrari.

That V8, if you were wondering, has 710 horsepower, which is more than a little ridiculous. But it had a fixed roof. There was no way to put that top down, even if you wanted. Until tonight.

On the eve of the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours, Ferrari has revealed the 488 Pista Spider, which is exactly what it sounds like, a Pista with a folding metal roof. Everything is essentially the same, except it weighs about 200 pounds more thanks to the folding roof mechanism.

That doesn't make it all that much slower. The Pista Spider gets to 62 in 2.85 seconds and hits 124 in eight seconds. That's the same time to 62 and 0.4 slower to 124. Top speed remains 211 mph. That means there's basically no compromise if you opt for the drop top, and you get to hear the engine even better thanks to both the folding roof and the rear window which can retract.

It also has a pretty cool stripe that gets wider at the rear, effectively dividing the car into an inner and outer section, a pretty cool touch.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but if it's anything like the 488 Pista coupe, it won't be inexpensive.
