I was impressed when I drove the 380-hp Jaguar F-Pace S last year, but I couldn't help but wonder what it'd be like with, say, 170 more horsepower. No need to wonder anymore. Today, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR makes its debut, packing a 550-hp supercharged V8 under its hood, exactly what this luxury family car needed.

This 5.0-liter engine is familiar to Jaguar Land Rover fans—you can find it in the F-Type R and Range Rover Sport SVR, and elsewhere. It offers 502 lb-ft of torque and sends its power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. All this makes the F-Pace SVR good for a 4.1-second 0-60 mph run and 176 mph flat out. We bet it sounds pretty good doing it too, thanks to an active sports exhaust.

Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team didn't just stuff a big engine in the F-Pace and call it a day, though. Spring rates are upped by 30- and 10-percent front and rear, respectively, and there's a new electronic locking differential for the rear axle. The SVR comes with 21-inch wheels standard while 22's are optional—both have been designed to reduce unsprung weight and improve brake cooling. Brakes are big too, with two-piece rotors measuring 15.5 inches up front and 15.6 inches in the rear.

As you can probably tell by the pictures, SVO made lots of aerodynamic changes to the F-Pace. There's big intakes at the front, while vents on the front and rear fenders reduce pressure in the wheel arches. The F-Pace SVR gets bespoke tuning for all its electronic systems too, which should help aid handling.

Inside, you get aggressively bolstered performance seats as standard, and lots of quilted leather. Otherwise, it's all pretty much standard F-Pace fare.

The F-Pace SVR makes its debut at the New York Auto Show today, and it's expected to arrive at dealers this summer with a $80,000 base price. We'll be talking to the engineers behind it, so expect more to come.
