Smack dab in the middle of Chevrolet's stand at the Los Angeles Auto Show is a Chevy Cruze. No big surprise, except this one beats BMW, Honda and all other comers in the World Touring Car Championship. Yes, this is basically the same chassis that supports the Volt and the 40-mpg Cruze Eco!
This is precisely why we eagerly await a Cruze SS powered by a 260--bhp version of the 2.0-liter turbo engine from the Buick Regal GS and former Cobalt SS. Chevy PR says the company is not going to make a Cruze SS, but I feel that's a mistake, given the success of the car in the FIA WTCC.
Sure, it's not a well known series here in the U.S., a point illustrated by two journalists who thought the Cruze on the LA stand was a rally car or a time-trial special. Nope...it's a winning road race car. Chevrolet, if you're listening, build a Cruze SS, paint it blue and equip it with ATS wheels. Please.
