This V6-Powered GT40 Replica Probably Won't Make Purists Happy

The Superformance Future GT Forty eschews a V8 for the EcoBoost twin-turbo V6. It's at SEMA right now.

If you were upset when you learned the new Ford GT went for an EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 instead of a V8, you probably won't like this. Called the Future GT Forty, it's a GT40 Mk1 replica built by the experts at Superformance with an EcoBoost similar to the one used in the modern GT where you'd otherwise find an old-school Ford 289 or a 427ci V8. Surely for purists, this is sacrilege, but at the very least, they'd have to admit this is an impressive build.

A representative from Superformance told us that this engine doesn't come directly from a new GT, but it's been modified to similar specs, so you can expect around 650 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. But unlike the new GT, this engine paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. The exhaust is custom-made by Magnaflow, while the two turbochargers are supplied by Garrett.

The paintwork pays tribute to the #68 GT that won its class at Le Mans in 2016, and dive planes look like they could've come off the race car, too, while a huge carbon-fiber wing completes the new-meets-old look. The wheels are center-lockers from HRE and they're wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, just like the GT road car. This car also rides on a height-adjustable air suspension.

In a press release, the Future GT Forty's owner, Doug Campbell, says the inspiration to create this car came while watching Le Mans last year. "Fast forward a year and a half later and we’re debuting it at the SEMA Show," he said.

Superformance is taking orders for the Future GT Forty right now, with pricing starting at $180,000. Of course, Superformance will still sell you a GT40 MkI replica with a 289 or 427ci, in case you don't like the idea of a modern twin-turbo mill in your GT40. We think you can't go wrong either way.
