The Toyota Prius probably isn't what comes to mind when you think of fun cars. It's an economy-centered hybrid-powered hatch that doesn't look the coolest and isn't too spectacular to drive. of Long Island, New York, decided it would be a good idea to transform a Prius into a 1000-horsepower Hellcat-powered drag machine. Yes please.
Though this car looks like a Prius, it's basically all new, with only the grafted-on body remaining. Underneath is a 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 with a 4.5-liter Whipple supercharger, sending 1000 horsepower through a six-speed manual Tremec gearbox to a Ford nine-inch rear end. Holding everything together is a custom double frame-rail chassis.
American Racing Headers owner Nick Filippides says the car is fully operational, and currently makes around 800 horsepower to the wheels. He also says the car is capable of nine seconds in the quarter-mile, but with a little more tuning, could get down to eight seconds. It also has A/C, which is nice.
The Hellcat-powered Prius premiered today at SEMA in Las Vegas. That's cool and all, but we'd really like to see is this car out on the road.
