If you're going to be racing, everything—from the simplest battery tie-down to your seats and HANS device—needs to be up to snuff. Because, frankly, you never know when it will all go to hell.

And that's exactly what happened to Steve Poot and Nicolas Pire at Rallye de Wallonie during the 2014 Belgian Rally Championship.
On a gravel straightaway in fifth gear, the duo's Renault Clio R3 catches just the slightest mid-air rotation, comes down facing a wall, and starts rolling. And rolling. And rolling. Five or six times in total, though the impact is hard enough that it's hard to tell.
It's a legitimately terrifying crash, but—just as with two years ago—both Pire and Poot are spared from a potentially fatal accident thanks to a sturdy, well-designed passenger-cabin endoskeleton.
This, folks, is why we love roll cages.
