It looks like Fernando Alonso has finally given up hope of being competitive this year. After numerous retirements due to Honda engine failures, Alonso feels even this latest upgrade to the Honda power unit won't make a difference this weekend in Austria, according to one interview.
reports Alonso had some less-than-optimal things to say about Honda's latest update.
"I think the engine is good for the team to do a press release, but it is practically the same," Alonso told EFE news. "Any upgrade is welcome, but there is no change with the new engine," he added. "We already tried it in Baku practice, but we were last and second to last."
Later, when the Spaniard was asked what is he expecting out of Honda's newly updated power unit in Austria, he replied simply, "Nothing."
Harsh words to hear from a driver, but at this point, we're surprised Alonso's stuck around this long at McLaren at all. Guess we'll see how this weekend goes.
