In time attack, there's virtually no limit to what kinds of cars people will show up with. There's everything from ultra-high downforce Nissan S15s to all-electric Lotus Evoras competing for victory. But we think this tube-frame Ford Escort with a twin-Hayabusa V8 might just be the coolest.
This Mk1 Escort racer might just seem like a heavily modified factory model at first, but under the skin lies a custom space frame with a fully integrated roll-cage, along with a 2.6-liter V8 engine created from welding together two 1.3-liter Hayabusa four-cylinders.
The result is an ultra-lightweight, extremely capable track monster with 450 horsepower, 270 lb.-ft. of torque, and a wild 10,500 rpm redline. Unsurprisingly, it looks like a handful.
Here's video of the Frankenstein V8-powered Ford on the dyno. It's as fantastic as you'd expect. Throw on some headphones and listen for yourself.
