The worst kept secret in motorsports : Helio Castroneves is going sports car racing. The three-time Indy 500 champion and 18-year Team Penske veteran will be racing Acura Team Penske's new ARX-05 DPi full-time for the 2018 IMSA season, meaning that his quest to win an IndyCar seasons championship has come to an end.
But he will be able to try to win a fourth Indy 500 title, as Penske is expected to enter a car for Castroneves at the 2018 race.
Castroneves joins former IndyCar teammate Juan Pablo Montoya and sports car standout Dane Cameron as Penske's announced drivers for the 2018 IMSA season, with more announcements to come regarding a fourth driver and drivers for the endurance rounds.
Team Penske will run the Petit Le Mans this weekend with Castroneves, Montoya, and Simon Pagenaud as drivers in an ORECA-07, the car that the Acura DPi is based on. The full Acura Team Penske team will make its debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January.
