The all-electric Tesla Model S P100D is one of the most talked-about drag cars of the year thanks to its ability to demolish a quarter-mile stretch of pavement in just 10.72 seconds. But what happens when you start taking weight out? Well, it gets even quicker.
took the liberty of stripping out the interior and front trunk trim of their P100D drag car a few months back to eek out even more performance at the drag strip. They were able to set in March, setting the record for fastest Model S in the quarter-mile.
Now the car is back, this time with no passenger seat and the speakers removed. At 4460 pounds, it's still not the lightest car in the world, but it was enough to set a slightly quicker 10.41 second quarter-mile time at 125 mph, breaking their own record.
Watch for yourself to see how much of a difference having no interior makes.
