At Road Atlanta last week, Ferrari held an event for its Corse Clienti and FXX programs, where the company's retired F1 cars and crazy FXX machines took to the track. Pro racer Marc Gené took out a customer's Ferrari F2003 Formula 1 car for a lap of the track, and well, you just need to watch it. Running a 1:01.2, Gené set a new track record and made Road Atlanta seem a lot shorter than its official 2.54-mile length suggests.

Some context: The previous Road Atlanta lap record was set during qualifying for Petit Le Mans in 2008, . There, a Peugeot 908 LMP1 car—which, coincidentally, Gené drove to victory at Le Mans in 2009—ran a 1:06.242. It's not entirely surprising that a Ferrari like the F2003 would beat the Peugeot, but still, damn. Five seconds on a short track like this is a huge margin.

And we haven't even addressed the sound. Oh, the sound. The F2003 is powered by a 3.0-liter V10 which pumps out around 900 hp and spins up to 19,000 RPM. We wish today's F1 cars sounded even half as good.

Just watch the video. We already have, multiple times, and we still can't quite process what we're seeing.
