"Mad Mike" Whiddett is a Kiwi drift legend with a thing for rotary-powered Miata. He's also sponsored by Red Bull, whose F1 team is competing in this weekend's Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. So, Red Bull got Whiddett and its own Australian F1 racer, Daniel Ricciardo, together for a very sideways lap of the circuit. Some tire smoke is generated, as you'd expect from a Miata that sends 1200 hp to its rear wheels.
Mad Mike, being the drift wizard he is, hangs the tail out on pretty much every corner, all while his Miata shoots flames out of its hood-exit exhaust. Meanwhile, Ricciardo looks like he's having the time of his life in the passenger seat.
The car is especially interesting. Dubbed "," it might look like a current ND Miata, but it's actually a last-gen NC underneath. It uses a four-rotor 26B—just like the one in the Le Mans-winning Mazda 787B. It is as cool as a drift car can get.
The video of Mad Mike's antics is embedded below, but you'll likely have to click through to YouTube to watch it. Which you should do, over and over again.
