Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
This GTP was sold new to Blue Thunder Racing, campaigned by drivers Randy Lanier and Bill Whittington with sponsorship from Apache Power Boats. According to the ad , it took victory at Riverside, Laguna Seca, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Portland, and Michigan during the 1984 season.
The next year, the car was seized by the FBI after the drivers and their sponsor talking about his return to racing after 26 years.. Lanier was released in 2015, and has since contributed to Road & Track
The car was sold by the FBI in 1988 to a couple who owned it until 2007, when Aston Martin test driver Chris Goodwin purchased it and imported it to the UK. He sold it in 2015 to an owner who had the engine and Chevy V8 rebuilt. Now, it's being offered for sale .
Considering the history behind this car, we'd say it's certainly worth some cash.
