In case you haven't already heard, the BMW M1 Procar sounds great. It's the racing version of BMW's first production M car, the mid-engine M1, built to compete in a spec racing series called the BMW M1 Procar championship in the late 1970s. Fortunately for engine noise addicts like us, there are still a bunch of them running on tracks today.
The Procar sports a straight-six engine capable of 470 horsepower at a staggering 9000 RPM. As you'll see in the video below, this power is best heard without any mufflers involved.
Car YouTuber got a chance to film a bunch of M1 Procars hitting the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit in Germany during the Oldtimer Grand Prix earlier this year, all with straight-pipe exhausts. There's no shortage of pops, bangs, and overrun flames to be had throughout the clip. Please, listen for yourself, and make sure to turn the volume up.
