The pre-season testing of Hyundai's Sebastien Loeb, Thierry Neuville and Andreas Mikkelsen above Monaco may seem like it was shot in slow motion, but these conditions make Rallye Monte Carlo such a perfect season opener. Drivers really need to get the most out of the few clean tarmac stretches, as throughout the weekend, they will only find more and more ice, since everything freezes overnight. Not to mention that above a certain altitude, snow is guaranteed, only without the pace of Rally Sweden to make the cars fly through it.
starts today in Gap, with two night-time speed tests. This will be followed by 16 stages covering almost 200 miles before the Monaco finish Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the speed tests, the shakedown was won by Kris Meeke, who's "still learning" his new Toyota Yaris WRC. Second place went to Ogier, who's back at Citroën, while Esapekka Lappi came third, also driving a C3 WRC.
