He may not get much recognition on this side of the Atlantic, but Mattias Ekstrom has little to prove. He's won 17 races and two championships in the competitive DTM touring car series in Germany, as well as winning the Swedish Touring Car Championship once and the Race of Champions twice. But like most racing drivers, he's always up for a new challenge.
Which is probably why Ekstrom is trying his hand at rallycross. The Swedish champion will be driving a Volkswagen Polo alongside Anton Marklund at the upcoming X Games in Munich and the subsequent European Rallycross round in Sweden before returning to the wheel of his Audi A5 for the DTM race at the Norisring in Nuremberg, Germany.
Having already tested Marklund's VW at the Estering last week, Ekstrom will become the latest racing star to cross over to rallycross alongside circuit racer Johan Kristoffeon and WRC drivers Sebastien Loeb and Petter Solberg.
