Unlike during the rest of a race, the first lap is where you see lots of cars bunched up together in a pack. It's also often the time when you have the most opportunity to move up multiple places in only a brief amount of time.
But the thing is, you can't win a race on the first lap. And if you're gunning for the front right from the start, you can easily make a mistake. Except while that mistake may have been no big deal with one or two cars around you, it can easily become a lot worse when you're surrounded by other drivers.
Case in point: This MX-5 Cup race.
Thankfully, it appears no one was seriously injured, but that sure is an unfortunate way to start your race. You need to remember that a race can't be won in the first corner, but it can be lost.
