F1 driver Fernando Alonso may be leaving the Ferrari F1 team at the end of this season, but he won't leave the team in ashes. When his car caught fire during practice ahead of this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix, Alonso handled it as casually as if he was tying his shoe. Just watch:
He did it like a guy who's handled this a thousand times before. "Damn, again? Good thing I already know where the fire extinguisher is."
While the engine in the Ferrari was due to be swapped anyway, it's unclear whether fire damage affected anything else in Alonso's car. Ferrari head of communications Renato Bisignani said the team is not planning to replace all drivetrain components with fresh parts, a move used by Sebastian Vettel at the U.S. Grand Prix that requires starting from pit lane.
After today's practice, , 0.221 seconds ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton.
