Here's what appears to be some of the best footage we've seen of the first test session of the 2014 Formula 1 season at Jerez, Spain. Making appearances are the Mercedes-Benz, Force India, Caterham, McLaren, Red Bull, Williams, and Ferrari F1 teams. Clearly, teams are having more than few teething issues with the new cars and their new turbocharged, energy recovery system-equipped "power units." We know that defending driver and manufacturer champion Red Bull has had extremely limited track time due to electrical and overheating , which one of the Force India cars also seems to be suffering from in this video. We're sure most of these bugs will be crushed before the season starts in Australia in March.
But it's not all cars on fire. Being the professionals they are, drivers are in the process of getting to know their 2014 rides. Check out one of the Williams drivers having a bit of a moment when he hits a wet patch at 1:50. Then there's the engine noise. Yesterday, we brought you a sample of Kimi Räikkönen in the Ferrari F14-T, and we all seem to agree that the new engines sound quite good. Though hearing a blow-off valve chirping away on an F1 car (again) may take some getting used to.
And don't miss the stunning gallery of Jerez shots from the ace photographer Jamey Price.
