Of all the bizarre kei cars that came out of the rich udon soup of platform sharing forced on the manufacturers by the Japanese government, the
Suzuki-engineered, Mazda-designed, mid-mounted turbocharged-inline-triple-powered, gullwing-doored Autozam AZ-1 has to be the most ludicrous. That means I
love it, and want it. And you should want it, too.
Why? Do you need a reason other than the gullwing doors? Alright, how about that we drove the thing when it was new and declared that it was basically a
1/2 scale Diablo. Read the old . With the maximum allowed 63-hp in charge of just 1,600 pounds, I don't doubt it.
This example on is ALL OF THE MONEY for one of these, but it looks nicer than a lot of the Canadian imports that have lived tough lives on the mean
streets of Japan. And before you ask, unless you have some kind of importation voodoo at your command, it's a few years too young to import into the US.
Legally, that is.
