Despite having a speedometer that reads to 310 mph, the 1500-horsepower Bugatti Chiron is electronically speed-limited from the factory at "just" 261 mph thanks to tire limitations. Here's a video showing you just how quickly it reaches that top speed.
This video comes from an event at the , where owners can take their cars and drive flat out for several miles on a closed off runway. This dark-red painted Chiron was able to reach a GPS-indicated 261 mph over 2.7 miles, just as the driver ran out of runway. It's worth noting that the driver started off slowly, and didn't launch the car. In fact, it seems the driver didn't even go full-throttle until the 100-mph mark. Here's the in-cabin clip from the run:
As you can see, the car was still accelerating at the finish line, meaning it could probably go faster if there were more pavement. If the driver had launched it right off the start and kept it full-throttle the entire time, we probably would've seen the electronic limiter kick in.
Seeing as how the Chiron's true, un-restricted speed isn't a priority for Bugatti's CEO, this may be the best we get... for now.
