In a world where an increasing amount of cars are going sub-7:00 minutes at the Nürburgring, a McLaren 720S running a 7:08.34 at the circuit might not seem all that impressive.

This run was undertaken by Germany's Sport Auto magazine, with racer Christian Gebhardt at the wheel. He's the guy who got a Mercedes-AMG GT R around the Nordschleife in 7:10 a few years ago, so there are no doubts about his driving credentials.

The 720S used for the run was wearing Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, too, which are plenty sticky, but not as aggressively track-focused as the Trofeo Rs Lamborghini uses for its Nürburgring runs or the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs Porsche employs. You can fit your 720S with a set of Trofeo Rs, and undoubtedly, it'd be significantly faster around the 'Ring, or any track. P-Zero Corsas, while good, are holding the 720S back here.

And yet, the 720S still makes the top-ten list of fastest production cars to lap the Nürburgring. Now imagine what it'd do with Trofeo Rs. Or what a Senna would do with those same tires.
